Old Settlers Blvd Extension Project

The next big road construction project to affect the Siena community has begun. The City of Round Rock and Williamson County will jointly work on the project to extend Old Settlers Blvd from CR 122 (Red Bud Lane) to CR 110.

The new road will have four lanes of divided roadway and a bridge over McNutt Creek and will run close to the current power lines overhead between Porano Circle and Sabbia Drive. The current plan is to include sidewalks but there are certain areas along the route that might be a little tight.

The project is only in the very preliminary phase with planning and development happening with the architects who have started working to build Geotech reports, perform surveys and get the “foundation” built before designing the rest of the project. With the project being in such an early stage, no timeline for completion or construction has been established as the design work will take at least a year – construction will not commence until at least 2021.

This project will have pluses and minuses for Siena residents depending on where you live. If you back up to the new planned construction area, you will have to deal with the construction noise and added traffic when the road is completed. However, the new road will provide Siena residents with another exit from the community and provide an alternate route into Round Rock for when traffic on US 79 is congested. The addition of the sidewalks could provide the opportunity to walk or ride a bike all the way to Old Settlers Park!

For those wondering about the possibility of Old Settlers Blvd extending past CR 110 to Toll 130, the master plan does included that extension but that is outside the scope of the current project. The extension to 130 might happen years in the future or not at all.

A special Thank You to Nicole in our Siena community for bring the idea of this project to my attention – I was able to research on the project and provide the information you’ve just read!
