How to Choose the Right Paint Colors for Your Open Floorplan Home

In episode #16, I’m going to share with residents of Siena Round Rock some tips for painting and selecting the right colors for your open floorplan home. Open floor plan homes are really popular right now and they have been for a while because they make a home feel spacious, give a flow to the home and are great for entertaining and keeping an eye on your kiddos in another room.  But what about paint in an open floor plan home?  Well, you could leave it all one color but your home is probably going to feel bland or boring. You could also paint each room a different color that might each look great by themselves but together they clash and look even worse.  This can break up a floor plan and even overwhelm you.

For choosing the right colors and painting your open floor plan home,  there are two really good options.  First, you just select a color that you really like for the main room in the home that you live in and spend most of your time in like the living room or family room.  Once you’ve chosen that main color, you can choose slightly different shades of that color for the other rooms they’re part of the open floor plan of your home.  You don’t need to select colors that are right next to each other in the color palette,  just shades that look good together.

The second option is a much more bold and ambitious strategy and that is to select completely different colors for each room in your open floorplan home. You want to use an app on your phone or go to your local hardware store to make sure that your colors go together perfectly.  If you select different colors, you want to make sure that you still unify the home and that the floorplan flows together.  You can do this by painting all of the trim the same color and you can also do it by using the colors that you’ve used in different rooms and making that color the accents for the other rooms.  For example, if you paint your living room of a shade of blue, maybe use that same shade of blue to accent the dining room or the kitchen.

Paint is really important and it can make your home more fun to live in and increase the resale value of your home if you have to sell.  I hope these tips have been helpful for you.  If you have any questions you can enter those in the comments below and I’ll make sure to answer that in another video.  Thanks for watching and reading!  This is Real Estate and THAT’S the REAL ANSWER!
