Construction Update
Construction for the new Gus Almquist Middle School is on schedule with the contractors. The building should be “dried-in” by the end of the month, at which time the interior work will pick up speed. Hutto ISD expects to receive the building by June of 2024 so they can get it ready for the anticipated August 2024 opening. Aside from the site development and construction elements, they are also in the process of placing the orders for furniture, fixtures, and equipment. The latter will begin arriving in the spring as they continue to coordinate between construction finishes and preparing for occupancy.
Attendance Zoning
The Hutto ISD School Board is in the process of finalizing the attendance zones for the new middle school and the adjusted boundaries for the existing middle schools. They are currently considering 2 possible options and are weighing a number of factors to keep all of the middle schools balanced and plan for the future. The current options will be reviewed with the Board of Trustees on November 9th and a public forum will be held in December before the new attendance zones are finalized in January. Administration and Staff Hiring
The Administration and the Talent Development team will soon undergo the process of selecting a Principal for Gus Almquist MS. This will be a key hire and it is anticipated that this person will be named in either December or January so that they can be in place to begin meeting with the community in preparation for the opening of school and hire the rest of the staff.
