Hutto ISD will break ground for Elementary School #7 (HES7) on Monday, February 12th at 12:00 PM. This is a public event and you are welcome to attend. Construction will commence as soon as contract are awarded; bids were due earlier this month.
The address for the new school will be 123 Siena Way and the primary entrance will connect at the south end of Hay Barn Ln with sidewalk connections planned directly from Siena and Greenhaven. HES7 will serve the Siena and Green Haven neighborhoods and anticipated opening will be August 2019 for the 2019-2020 school year.
Hutto ISD has had success with previous energy efficient school designs and has continued that by including solar and rain harvesting systems in HES7 with the goal of a near net-zero building. The design for the school was completed by Pfluger Associates. Here is a statement on the school from their website:
The design was a result of a collaborative design approach, including feedback from user groups and school tours. The building is laid out around the Media Center that acts as a central hub to the school. The main corridor travels around this central hub to serve classroom wings, special programs, administrative areas, the gymnasium and cafeteria. The design also incorporates two open-air courtyards; one for Science and the other for Fine arts. Similar in concept to the central hub of the school, each grade level surrounds a shared open learning area or “neighborhood” that can be used as an extension of the classroom and supports project based learning initiatives.
