Veteran’s Hill Elementary School in Siena Round Rock will have a new Principal for the 2017-2018 school year, Misty Patureau. To help the residents and parents in Siena get to know the new principal for their children at Veteran’s Hill, I interviewed Misty and she was kind enough to share with all of us.
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Hi! My name is Misty Patureau. I have been in the education field for 20 years. I grew up just down the road in Taylor, Texas. I attended high school in Taylor, earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Learning and Development at the University of Texas in Austin, and earned my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Policies at the University of Texas in Arlington.
Can you share with us where else you have worked, what roles you had and what brings you to Veteran’s Hill?
During my career, I have taught in both the monolingual and bilingual classroom for 13 years, I was a bilingual dyslexia, reading, and math interventionist for 3 years, and I was a dual language instructional specialist for 1 year. I spent 2 years in Taylor ISD, 15 years in Pflugerville ISD, and I have been in Hutto ISD for the past 3 years as the Assistant Principal at Ray Elementary. Most recently, I was honored to be given the opportunity to serve as the Principal at Veterans’ Hill Elementary.
What about your family and personal interests?
My personal interests include: singing, playing the piano, exercising, and crafting. I also love to spend time with my family and friends! I have been married for 15 years to my husband, Jason, and I have two children, Christopher, 13, and Katelyn, 11, who both attend Farley Middle School here in Hutto. We have lived in Hutto for the past 9 years and are so proud to call the HippoNation our home!
Is there anything new or different that parents should expect at Veteran’s Hill this coming year?
The new classrooms are coming along nicely and are ahead of schedule! New furniture will be delivered soon! We look forward to hosting many of the same activities we have had in the past and adding a couple of new events to our calendar. We will continue to support engaging PTA events and dual language events, and we encourage all of our students to participate in these activities! We are hoping to partner with the Ray community to offer conversational English and Spanish classes at a central location. I started this program at Ray and would like to extend it to the Veterans’ Hill community! ESL classes will continue this year, as they did last school year. The STARBASE program will again be offered to many fifth grade students. This program focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.) It is held at Camp Mabry in Austin. Our Open House/Title I Night will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 26. We hope to see you all there!
What can our community do to support you, the staff and teachers, and the school this coming year?
We love to have our parents involved in our school and partnering with us to make our community a better place. When we all work together, our students achieve awesome things! We are looking for volunteers and mentors to help out at school, as well as, additional membership in our PTA (Parent and Teacher Association). Please give us a call or stop by the office if you are interested in serving in these capacities.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I am so honored to be the Principal at Veterans’ Hill! I look forward to getting to know all of you and working alongside you to assist our students in achieving their goals and in meeting their potential!
